The Beauty of a Friend

Last fall, Ellen mentioned something about what the side effects of the medications were doing to her face and she felt conscientious about her appearance.  It broke my heart that she would feel that way and I was inspired to write the following poem for her.  She said she loved it and it warmed my heart to know that.  She was such a beautiful person.

The beauty of a friend
Is not seen through outward appearances
Beauty is seen through caring eyes
And felt through unconditional love.

The beauty of a friend
Is shown through the touch
Of a caring hand in a time of need
To feel the compassion and understanding.

The beauty of a friend
Is proven by unselfishly giving
Of their self, even in their troubled times,
Always helping and never judging.

The beauty of a friend
Is given through a kind comment
And words of encouragement
When one needs it the most.

A beauty of a friend
Is defined many ways
But the most simple way
Is to say, it’s you.

Rest in peace, sweet Ellen.  You were such an inspiration to me; not giving up even when the news was grim.  You were a true friend and shared my tears and listened when my cat Ashley was ill and then when she died.  Sending love and hugs to you in Heaven.

Why is it that medications that help you to live make you unable to want to live in so many ways?

Karen, that's a beautiful poem for Ellen! She's been on my mind all day as it's the day for her memorial service.

So lovely, Karen. I know we've all been thinking about the memorial service that was held this morning. We were there in spirit though. Thanks so much for posting this. You're a great girl.

That was beautiful! I have missed you soooooooooooo much.
My health is better. We have been without power from the tornado that hit us last Sunday. We just got the power back yesterday. I will have to catch up with you soon.
Huggles and Love,

Karen, I have friends like that and you are someone I count among them. I am very sorry for the loss of your friend and for her family but from what I understand she was a believer and that means she's gone ahead and is excitedly preparing to see her beloved family and friends again soon.

This is a very lovely poem. As I read it there were names that came to my mind of very special people in my life, again, you being one of them. And I am humbled that I did not see Ellen's beauty and get to know her but grateful that she touched so many here that I care about. I won't make that mistake again.

Karen, thank you so much for being a shoulder this week. I'm on pins and needles as it is and I don't think I've ever felt such animosity towards a person in my life. If you knew how hard I find it to pray for him but I'm trying.

PLEASE take care of your knee and your bruises...I did remember to pray you would be in less pain today. :)

Take care of you.
