You Never Know...

We never know from one second to the next if an event could end your life or change it forever. Last night about 6:45, a single shooter let loose at Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake. He had a backpack full of ammunition and killed at least three (and up to ten) and injured a few more. The mall employees did a great job in getting their customers to safety, hiding behind counters, dressing rooms, and stock rooms/offices.

When I saw the news report last night before I went to bed, the police evacuated the mall and the police were still inside trying to sort out what happened and interviewing witnesses. The shooter moved about on the lower level of the mall, not targeting just one spot so they're not sure what the motive was.

One man saw the shooter from the upstairs with a clear shot, and was about to toss a stool down on the shooter but then an Ogden City police officer (off duty) signaled him to back off. When this man first heard the shots and saw the shooter, he ran around telling everyone to get in the stores and hide. In the interview, he said, "I wish I could have done more." I think he is a hero; not many people would warn others and endanger their lives.

The last report from the police representative was that the shooter is dead. Local news will have more firm details today.

It's scary; what this world is coming to. There were families with small children, teenagers, parents, grandparents, and others in the mall who thought they were just going to the mall and but their night was completely different.

We are neck deep in a culture/society that we deserve .... truly a vicious downward spiral. Hmmmm.

The world we live in today is no longer the world we always thought we would be living in and enjoying. Everyday something more reminds me to enjoy my here and now for who knows---
Take care I send you special thoughtsand love.

That is so scary and so sad. What brings a person to do that? I'll never understand that and maybe that's a good thing.
<hugs>

I don't understand people like that. It's baffling. And wasn't he only 18. So young to be so disturbed.

BTW I had a Gee Whiz with the DJ. I'm kicking myself now.

I read about that last night and my first thought was - I hope Karen wasn't out shopping!! It seems you aren't safe anywhere anymore.
It's shopping day for me so I guess I better go put on my bullet proof vest!

Take care and enjoy your day.

That is terrible ! I am glad you weren't shopping or your parents or siblings.

I remember when I was a kid that my parents dropped us off at the mall and we would spend the day there. You sure can't do that anymore with young kids.

I hope you have a terrific Tuesday !

*HUGS*

It made the news over here too and when I saw it I thought of you. You just don't know what's going to happen next.

So sad. And the shooter was only 18, too. I just don't understand. Not at all :(

There are a lot of seriously disturbed people out there now-a-days Karen, far too many of them are only kids too.
Thanks for the card, BTW the feed isn't working on bloglines... they don't seem to like you!!!

Oh my goodness...how terrifying and sad. You think you're going to the mall to shop and then you're fearing for your life or are dead.

Life is unpredictable and that is a sobering thought. It's a reminder to make the most of life because you never know when the breath you inhale will be your last.

It's sad that we live our lives today knowing that this can happen and I'm grateful when it STILL shocks me because I haven't lost hope.

This is another reason why I am a strong advocate for cell phones. Between this, Columbine, 9-11...it's not melodramatic to wonder if my kids are going to come home every time they walk out the door.

Yes, he is indeed a hero. I don't believe heroes THINK, they just DO because it's in their nature to help.
