Update on Eli

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Eli, Travis, and Sara.  The surgery took about four hours all together and it went well.  Sara and Travis are really tired after their long day but they are happy that Eli will be fine.  Primary Children's Medical Center has been wonderful through everything. Eli's range of motion is great and her intestines/colon was not bothered at all (which was a potential complication) - she even pooped on the table for the doctors LOL  Yes, she's Travis' daughter ;-)

Sara sent me a text message about two hours after Eli was out of surgery and she said Eli had just eaten and was resting comfortably.  They're giving her oral medication to help with the pain and it's being managed well.  I spoke with Sara this evening and she said that she feeds Eli every four hours when they give her the medication.  Sara sounded exhausted but relieved.

I hope to drive down to Salt Lake tomorrow or Saturday to see them all.  My parents are anxious to see their great-granddaughter again.

Sara wrote on Eli's care page (a website that is designed to keep family and friends updated on the child's condition) that she and Travis could not have gotten through everything without help from their family and friends.  Her words rang true for I feel the same - family and friends are the most precious gifts we receive.  Thank you all again!

Karen, what a relief that must be for you. So happy to hear the good news. Aren't the Carepages great? Kaylas mom keeps us up to date with Kaylas progress through a care page. It's a priceless communication tool.

Karen - I haven't been by in a while and didn't even know about sweet litttle Eli. But I am certainly glad that all came out well for her surgery. It is so painful to think of someone so tiny and helpless having to go through that kind of ordeal. I am SURE glad it came out OK! And I hope you enjoy your trip to see them all. ~ jb///

Wonderful news! Great that the hardest part is over, that's got to be a relief. Give her a hug for me (if its medically appropriate).
