Cabin Adventure Day One

My adventure to my Aunt Lou Jean's Cabin began on Thursday, September 20, 2007 around 10:45 - almost two hours later than I planned to start out. I could hardly wait to get on the road and to drive the four hours (my driving time) to the cabin. Of course, my driving time did not match how long it took to get there. I took my parents and we planned to meet Lou Jean at her house in Idaho Falls. We made good time to Idaho Falls, 2.5 hours with only one potty stop.

We arrived at Lou Jean's and then loaded her car since my entire trunk and half the back seat were filled to the brim, so there was no room for her. She likes to have her car there anyway so it worked out well. We drove to the local McD's for a Dollar Menu lunch and where they could get Senior drinks for a quarter.

Lou Jean wanted to stop at the Fred Meyer that was just a block from the McD's to get milk, bread, and eggs. Mom rode with Lou Jean and Dad and I followed them in my car. For some reason, the block to Fred Meyer's turned out to be a long way off, even onto Highway 20. I called Lou Jean's cell phone and joked about how long that block was. She decided to stop in Ashton, Idaho instead. Ashton is the town right before we entered the Targhee National Forest. That little trip to the grocery store took about an hour and it felt like five for me because I wanted to get to the cabin.

I must admit, it was a good thing we stopped in Ashton because I needed to go potty. I managed to find the restroom after walking around the entire store and was perplexed at the locking system in the stall. Only a photo could catch the moment and being the shutterbug I am, I carry a small camera with me. This is quite inventive, isn't it?

The drive up the canyon was fun with Dad; we talked about old times and made jokes about the funny road names. The "Chick Creek Road" made us laugh hard because Dad was having a tough time saying it and it came out "Shit Crick." We laughed about that all weekend, actually. We were amazed at how much the forest had grown; it's looking more beautiful than it had in years.

We finally drove in the cabin's driveway at 4pm. The weather was beautiful, sunny, and a crisp feel to the air. I was in heaven. Then I realized I had a lot of stuff to unload. After the long drive, I was really hurting and stiff. I took a pain pill and we managed to get unloaded and settled in an hour.

Dad zonked out on the corner bed for a nice nap while Mom, Lou Jean, and me tried to think of something for dinner.

I wanted to go for a walk down by the river and take some photos because it was a gorgeous night but I was in so much pain and so I just took photos of the cabin and around it.

Then once I got back to the cabin, I laid down on the couch and did not want to move again. We relaxed that night and watched a movie then we were all in bed by 10pm which is unusual, we usually stay up until midnight or so. I slept so good - as I always do at the cabin. The only thing that woke me up was my bladder. As I was headed back to bed, I walked by the couch where my dad slept and he scared the begeesus out of me when he shined the flashlight in my face and grabbed my leg. He thought that was so funny... so did I, but it woke me up more than I wanted.

The first day was relatively calm... the second day was filled with fun! Tune in tomorrow.
